THE HOUSE RULES · V2

A quick refresher.

Four players, two teams. Your partner sits opposite you. Win valuable cards and make your team’s bid.

Know your cards

Highest to lowest: J · 9 · A · 10 · K · Q · 8 · 7.
Jack = 3 points, Nine = 2, Ace and Ten = 1 each. There are 28 points; no last-trick bonus.

Bid, then choose trump

Bid with your first four cards, starting at 16 and ending at 28. Passing leaves the auction permanently. If all pass, the dealer takes 16. The winner chooses a suit or seventh-card trump; everyone then receives four more cards. In seventh-card mode, the bidder's actual seventh dealt card sets the suit and is held aside. Only the bidder may see it before reveal; it is not part of their playable hand until revealed. If it is their final card, they may reveal it even when leading.

Play your hand

Play to the right (anticlockwise around the table). Follow the led suit when you can. If you cannot, discard or reveal trump. Trump only takes effect from the trick in which it is revealed. Revealing does not force you to play trump in this preset.

Pair & scoring

Marriage is checked automatically after the trick in which trump is revealed. A player must still hold both the trump King and Queen. A bidding-side marriage reduces bids of 19 or higher by 4, with a minimum target of 16; bids 16–18 stay unchanged. An opposing marriage raises the target by 4, capped at 28. The holder and both cards are shown to everyone. A made contract earns the bidding team +1; a miss earns −1. Red/black sixes expose the current points. Reaching +6 adds one red set; −6 adds one black set for that team. The next set resets both point cards, keeping all set markers.

A friendly pace

Turns allow 15 seconds. On timeout a bot makes one legal decision for that turn. Solo play uses the same timer. The host starts the next deal. After trump selection, opponents may double (±2 points), and either bidding-side player may redouble (±4), before the final four cards are dealt. After the full deal, each player can declare single hand: no trump, partner sits out, caller leads and must win all eight tricks for +3; losing any trick immediately scores −3. Single hand replaces all contract multipliers. Each decision allows 15 seconds; timeout continues without raising the stakes. Reaching or crossing ±6 closes that set; scores reset next deal without carrying excess points.
